SALAMONE -- If you want to improve you Facilitator's skills - GET this book! : Dr. Smutny reached out to me for feedback on this book because of my leadership and facilitator background as a military officer, educator, health care and inclusion leader. This is an easy, informative read with impactful stories and practical lessons to improve your facilitator skills. This guide is a wonderful resource that can be put to work in real life, everyday scenarios. I not only enjoyed reading it but learned so much! One thing I learned was that I was already doing a pretty good job as a facilitator but also how much more I could do and learn. One thing I really loved was his humor, authentic prose and the chapter on "Assembling a Facilitator's Toolkit". The only feedback I would give is to include photos of how he sets up his meetings and links to where he gets his supplies (Hello...Amazon, I know). The title is intriguing enough, positioning the notion of meeting inclusivity as radical. Sadly, Smutny may be right. After diagnosing the problem – haven’t we all sat through meetings that drone on and go nowhere – he prescribes the cure through a list of no-nonsense and easy-to-implement suggestions, ranging from the facilitator’s toolkit, and the importance of room layout to interest-based, principled negotiating and facilitating systemic organizational change. The book is full of examples and is a great refresher for seasoned facilitators and a guide for those starting their facilitating careers!
